Why did I get into running....?

I started running in 2018 as part of my lifestyle change, I had been over 26 stone in 2016 and made the decision one morning to join my local Leisure centre gym.

I had an injury setback in the first year which actually set me on my running course. A doctor told me because of my back issues I wouldn't be able to run.

But being "thran" I decided to build myself towards this goal. So after quite a few months of Pilates and gentle exercise I managed to jog 1 mile on the treadmill.  This led to 2 miles then 5km; then my first timed event at Portrush parkrun (which was my initial target). I completed a couple of 10k races then two half marathons in 2018.

I met Stephen Filis by chance at my son’s scout group and joined RunFit Causeway. I signed up for the Belfast Marathon in 2019 and with training a plan in place from Stephen. I was delighted to cross the finish line in just over 5 hours, with Stephen encouraging me for the last 2 or 3 miles.

Running has been a great help to me over the last few years both physically and mentally. I have gone from being a stress eater to a stress runner, a change that I would highly recommend!

I have an online blog on Facebook and Instagram: 26stoneto26miles
